Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. After her father's death the family, it was taken care of by her mother, grandmother, and godparents. In her early years she was suffering from an obsessive compulsive disorder and suffered anxiety linked to word associations. Ford was fascinated by acting during her teenage years she joined the National Youth Theatre. She gained admission to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but after just a few days, decided that she wasn't a good fit there. Ford decided to apply to Central School of Speech and Drama and winning a placement at the third time made an application and secured acceptance to Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's fellow students. He was later to play frequent roles on the show as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford received her degree in 1993. However, prior to that, Ford made a television debut, appearing as a character in Surgical Spirit in an episode that aired in the year 1991. Ford took the professional name Catherine Tate. Tate made her television debut in 1991and appeared on television shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Apart from her regular stage work, Tate was a part of the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate was recognized as a stand-up comedian and became part of her portfolio in 1996.
